Illinois Governor Pat Quinn says lawmakers who didn't send him a pension overhaul bill have let down taxpayers.  Quinn set Tuesday as the deadline for a bipartisan pension panel to report back with a plan. That was even as members of the so-called conference committee formed last month called his deadline arbitrary and irresponsible.  Quinn says there'll be consequences, but he's declined to say exactly what he'd do.

Kentucky Governor Steve Beshear says he wasn't given a heads up before fellow Democrat Alison Lundergan Grimes announced her U.S. Senate bid last week. But he says he doesn't see it as a slight.  The governor says he's eager to help Grimes in her effort to unseat five-term Republican Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell next year. Beshear himself lost a Senate race to McConnell in the 1990s.

An Illinois bipartisan panel has finished a third meeting about the state's $97 billion pension crisis as another deadline set by Governor Pat Quinn lapses without a solution.  The group has now asked for reports of the cost-savings of a university-backed retirement funding proposal after meeting Monday. Quinn gave the committee a deadline of today to achieve pension reform.  Lawmakers moved to form the committee after a compromise couldn't be reached last month.

The organization seeking to minimize the loss of more than a thousand workers at the Paducah Gaseous Diffusion Plant is rushing to replace its administrator and executive director. Little more than a week ago, the Paducah-Area Community Reuse Organization, or PACRO, was informed it would lose its administrative organization at the heels of Executive Director John Anderson’s early retirement. Yesterday, executive committee members called this situation an emergency and unanimously agreed to exempt a competitive search for new administration.
