The University of Tennessee at Martin will establish a mobile classroom about energy energy under a $147,000 USDA grant.

The University of Tennessee at Martin is facing a 12-month probation period on its accreditation status.  

On Thursday, interim chancellor Robert Smith sent a letter to students, faculty and staff explaining that the university had received oral notification from the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges of accreditation probation pending corrective actions.

"I think that as a society, we really do need to continue to encourage women to get that routine mammogram, those routine screenings," says Dr. Victoria Seng, University of Tennessee at Martin's Associate Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs, citing frightening statistics about breast cancer: every three minutes, a woman is diagnosed with breast cancer, the leading cause of cancer among white and black women. 85% of women with breast cancer have no known family history, as was the case with her experience, she says. Dr. Seng joins Kate Lochte on Sounds Good to share her story ahead of her keynote speech at UT Martin's 4th Annual Women's Symposium Tuesday from noon to 4 p.m.

The University of Tennessee at Martin hosts its 15th Annual Civil Rights Conference next week. Conference Director, Assistant Professor of History Renee LaFleur previews the multi-day event whose keynote speaker is presidential historian and Director of the Lyndon B. Johnson Library since 2009, Mark Updegrove. On Sounds Good, Kate Lochte speaks with LaFleur about the theme of how President Johnson's "Great Society" contributed to the Civil Rights Movement and other featured speakers at the event.


Six students from the University of Tennessee at Martin's sports business program are working hospitality events with their sports management professor at both the Pro Bowl and Super Bowl at the University of Phoenix Stadium in Glendale, Arizona this weekend. A UT Martin professor has been appointed to review Tennessee’s math standards. Governor Bill Haslam announced that Stephanie Kolitsch will serve on the Mathematics Standards Review and Development Committee.

Haslam has asked The State Board of Education to appoint the Mathematics Standards Committee along with an English Language Arts Standards Review and Development Committee, each with three advisory teams. Kolitsh will lead the Mathematics Advisory Team for grades 9-12.
