TN ROTC Program Closures Delayed

The U.S. Army has agreed to put off the planned closure of Reserve Officers Training Corps programs at three Tennessee universities.

Republican U.S. Senators Lamar Alexander and Bob Corker said yesterday the delay will provide time to show the programs can meet the Army's needs.

UT Martin Presents ECHO 360 Webinar on Active Learning Online

Active learning online is a buzz phrase for getting faculty lectures to students before they come to class, so the class can be an engagement center for students asking about lectures they've already heard, and presumably studied.  University of Tennessee at Martin instructional technology designer Harriette Spiegel is involved in an ECHO 360 webinar open to all, free, this Thursday at 1 p.m.  It is targeted specifically to supporting STEM classrooms. University of Tennessee Introduces Increased Tuition Fees

The University of Tennessee Board of Trustees have approved a 6% instate tuition increase for its Martin campus. Tuition and fees will cost undergraduate students an additional $229 per semester and graduate students an additional $265.

Three Former UTM Football Players Face Robbery, Kidnapping Charges

Three former University of Tennessee at Martin football players face robbery and kidnapping charges. Linebacker Cortez Bowen was removed from the team after he and former players Richard Taylor and Jeremy Anderson allegedly robbed and kidnapped two UTM students at gunpoint earlier this month. A 17-year-old juvenile is also charged in the incident.

UT Martin Tuition Raised by Six Percent

Former Professor and Gubernatorial Candidate Passes Away

Former Tennessee Democratic gubernatorial candidate Richard Chesteen passed away yesterday at the age of 72. The Union City native was a candidate for governor in 1994, and was a longtime political science professor at the University of Tennessee at Martin. Chesteen was an Obion County commissioner from 1982 to 1994, and taught at UT-Martin from 1969 until retiring in December 2007. He’s survived by his wife and two children.

UT Martin Student Arrested Before Planned Assault

A former University of Tennessee at Martin student was arrested Tuesday night near the Boling University Center before a planned assault could be carried out against a former girlfriend and her male friend.
