Kentucky Transportation Official Says No US 68/KY 80 Speed Limit Increase Until Project Complete

Some officials are pushing for a 65 mile per hour speed limit on US 68/KY 80, but Kentucky’s transportation cabinet secretary said now isn’t the time.

Mike Hancock said he’s reluctant to change the speed limit since many tourists come to western Kentucky.

Elkins: 'No Reasonable Explanation' Regarding KYTC's U.S. 68/KY 80 Speed Limit

Calloway County Judge-Executive Larry Elkins is pushing to get the speed limit on a portion of highway U.S. 68/KY 80 raised from 55 mph, to 65.

Last year, the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet raised the speed limit on a different, 59-mile section of the highway between Cadiz and Bowling Green.

Elkins said he met with KYTC official Mike McGregor at the end of October to discuss raising the speed limit, but walked away from the meeting unsatisfied.

Murray-Calloway Committee Supports Higher 68/80 Speed Limit

The Murray-Calloway County Chamber of Commerce Advocacy Committee is moving ahead with plans to support possible legislation increasing the speed limit on US 68/KY 80 to 65 mph.
