Rupp Arena Renovations Could Appear on 2015 Legislative Agenda

Funding for the makeover of Lexington's Rupp Arena could be a topic of conversation during the upcoming 2015 session of the Kentucky General Assembly, so says Madison County Senator Jared Carpenter.

Efforts during the previous term to secure $80 million dollars in state funds for the Rupp project were unsuccessful.  Carpenter believes the matter could surface during the upcoming short session.

Kentucky Higher Ed and Equine Advocates Support Immigration Reform

University of Kentucky officials participated in the "Day of Action," saying the school is interested in immigration reforms to impact both teachers and students from other countries.  UK Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences Mark Kornbluh says professors are required to return home as a way to continue their teaching profession here in the U.S.  "We need a way for these employees to be able to revalidate their visas to stay here, not always have to leave the country to do this and to transition to being here a longer period of time," said Kornbluh.

UK Launching Clinical Alzheimer's Study

The University of Kentucky is about to launch a clinical study that tests an existing medication as a treatment for Alzheimer Disease.

Researchers at UK’s Alzheimer Disease Center think a cholesterol-lowering class of drugs known as fibrates can also prevent the deadly dementia related ailment.

UK Healthcare receives NCI designation

The University of Kentucky’s Markey Cancer Center reached a long-sought after milestone Friday, with officials announcing the center has been granted National Cancer Center Institute cancer center status.  Despite being ranked at or near the top nationally for a multitude of cancers, Kentucky has been one of 16 states without an NCI-designated facility.
