Progress on Ledbetter Bridge Demolition

A contractor for the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet is continuing to make progress on the demolition of the Old Ledbetter Bridge. The contractor has removed all the concrete decking from the 3 truss spans and has started removing decking on the eastern approach spans at the Livingston County end of the 85 year old structure.

The contractor submitted a demolition plan to the US Coast Guard for approval about a month ago.  The Coast Guard shared the plan with a river industry trade group and federal agencies for their input.   This week the US

Fracking Wastewater Transport Gets Industry Support, Environmentalists Concerned

The U.S. Coast Guard’s proposed policy change to allow the transport of hydraulic fracturing wastewater on rivers has some environmental groups voicing opposition, citing safety concerns. The Kentucky Waterways Alliance says the wastewater might be too hazardous.

Bridge Debris Removal Begins at Eggners Ferry Crash Site

A salvage contractor plans to begin removing debris tomorrow from around the Eggners Ferry Bridge crash site. U. S. Coast Guard spokesman Lt. Jason Franz says equipment moved into place last night, and staging continues today. Motor vessel Delta Mariner smashed into the bridge earlier this year, splitting one section. Franz says accident debris has remained at the bottom of Kentucky Lake since then.
