Dine With Trigg County's Most Unusual Characters (Sold Out Event)

A couple of farmers settle a dispute over a property line with a shoot out on main street in Cadiz. A young man decides to host a fish fry, using dynamite to catch the fish. A Trigg County man moves to Florida to run mail up and down the beach until he disappeared one day... the rumor goes he was eaten by an alligator. These are just some of the historical accounts of "Dining with the Dearly Departed" a now sold-out event by Southern Kentucky Independent Theatre Group in Cadiz this weekend. Western Kentucky Farm Uses Drone to Survey Crops

Seven Springs Farms consists of numerous farms located in Trigg, Christian, Cadlwell and Lyon Counties, and may be the first farm in the region to use drones, specifically the DJI drone that you can see in operation on YouTube. Severe Weather Sweeps Through Western KY and Southern IL

Communities throughout western Kentucky and southern Illinois are contending with high water, hail damage, and downed trees this morning following severe storms that passed through our region last night. 

Residents in Beulah in Hopkins County reported a large funnel cloud at about 7:30 p.m., and a large wedge-shaped tornado close to a mile wide was reported in Christian an hour later.  Winds of up to 70 miles an hour were recorded near Elkton in Todd County.

Early Morning Fire Leaves Trigg County Woman Dead

  A 75-year-old Trigg County woman died of smoke inhalation when her home caught fire the early this morning.  Kentucky State Police say the fire was reported around 2 a.m. at the Cadiz home of Dorothy C. Mitchell on Rocky Ridge Road.  Montgomery Volunteer Firefighters found Mitchell's body after extinguishing the blaze.  State police say an autopsy determined the woman's cause of death. The fire's cause hasn't been determined, but police say no foul play is suspected

How to Judge A Country Ham

Kate Lochte speaks with Dr. Gregg Rentfrow of the UK Extension Faculty about how to judge country hams. The 37th Annual Trigg County Country Ham Festival takes place this weekend and many people are bringing hams for judging. Dr. Rentfrow talks about the criteria: confirmation, which is the overall shape of the ham, how plump it is, and whether it has a pleasing shape - like a classic teardrop; workmanship, the ability to clean the ham up - extra curing, mold (yes, mold! he explains this), etc.; and color and aroma! Tri-County Chamber Alliance Plans $3 Million Lake Barkley Renovation

A $3 million renovation for Lake Barkley State Park is among the legislative priorities for the Southern Pennyrile Chamber Alliance in 2014.  Trigg, Christian and Todd make up the chamber alliance.

Christian County Judge Executive Steve Trimble said the facelift to the Lake Barkley campground and lodge is something the alliance has been working towards for several years.

“Obviously, as you well know, LBL is our state’s number one tourism draw,  over a million people come in there each year," said Trimble. "Tourism obviously is very big in Trigg County and, you know the lodge appearance through the year is kinda, there’s been some renovation, but it’s still kinda worn and outdated.”

Preview of the 37th Annual Trigg County Ham Festival

UK Extension event organizers who started the Festival said they had to choose between hams and moonshine in celebrating a local product and they thought they ought to go with hams.
