In May, news came out of the National Archery in Schools Program national championship in Louisville that the Trigg County High School archery team finished in first place among 192 high school teams that competed. They are known as the Trigg County Arrowcats and this isn't their first national championship. On Sounds Good, Kate Lochte speaks with their coach, Tom Patterson, about the team's continuing success with NASP competition.

The Prichard Committee for Academic Excellence is transitioning leadership with the retirement of Dr. Stu Silberman and the selection of his successor Brigitte Ramsey. Ramsey has been Associate Executive Director since last May. Together, they're touring the state and last night they were at Barkley Lodge in Trigg County with committee and community members as well as local educators.

A rare burr oak tree in Canton was cut down this weekend to make way for the new Lake Barkley bridge, upsetting some Trigg County residents.

They had worked with Judge-Executive Hollis Alexander to save the 250 year old tree. But Alexander says the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet ultimately had to cut down the tree for the project.

It's a luxury fiber similar to cashmere, but has a hollow core that gives it an extra insulating property, which makes it lighter and warmer. Ryan Champion pleaded not guilty yesterday in Trigg County court to 4 counts of murder and 1 count of kidnapping victim death in the killing of his family and a fourth person October 26th.

Kentucky State Police Detectives have charged 36-year-old Ryan Champion with the deaths of his mother, father, and sister. He is also being criminally charged with the death of Vito Riservato. State Police has been actively investigating the murders of Joy Champion, Lindsey Champion, Emily Champion and Vito Riservato since they were found at the Champion's residence in Cadiz on October 26th. Since that time, investigators have been gathering evidence and speaking to a number of people culminating enough probable cause for an arrest warrant.

Police are using 3D diagrams from a laser scanner in their investigation of the Champion family deaths Sunday.

Residents of Trigg County are coping with a tragic loss in the aftermath of a shooting that left three members of the Champion family dead.

Third Update:  A number of media outlets are reporting that the deaths were a result of a murder suicide plot.  This scenario has never been reported by the Kentucky State Police.  

Second Update:  The Kentucky State Police are still processing the crime scene in Trigg County.  The last body in the residence has been identified as Vito Y. Riservato, 22 of Hopkinsville, KY.

It's all about testing, cooking and eating ham in Cadiz this weekend. The Trigg County Ham Festival also features a carnival and petting zoo for kids, Janice Mason Art Museum's Quilt Show, country music concerts, and non-profits raising money for their activities. Festival booth chair and WKDZ/WHVO business office manager Melissa Noel tells Kate Lochte about some of the more than 200 booths planned, on Sounds Good.
