New Crash Test Dummy To Gain Pounds To Reflect Fatalities Among Obese

The new crash test dummy — not this one — will weigh 271 lbs and have a body mass index of 35. Automakers use the dummies to prove their vehicles are roadworthy.

More than one-third of Americans are obese, and one recent study showed that obese drivers are more likely to die in a car crash. So the world's largest maker of dummies is making one that is obese.

Kentucky Roadway Fatalities Continue to Decline

A state law enforcement official says a declining fatality rate in Kentucky can be attributed to a number of factors. 

Kentucky State Police Spokesman Michael Webb says car design improvements, safe driving education and awareness efforts, and enforcement have all helped as the number of deaths on state highways has fallen.

No Traffic Deaths in KY During New Year's Holiday


Kentucky made it through the New Year holiday without any highway fatalities. Kentucky State Police say seven people died in seven separate crashes between Dec. 26 through Jan. 1, but preliminary statistics show none of those occurred during the New Year’s holiday. That time period ran from 6 p.m. Dec. 28 through New Year’s Day.

Six Die in Weekly Traffic Accidents
