The Forest Service at Land Between the Lakes has canceled its controversial Pisgah Bay Project as proposed after months of public outcry.

Residents from areas surrounding Land Between the Lakes National Recreational Area showed up for the Forest Service hosted listening session, filling the Kentucky Dam Village Convention Center last night.

Most had the intent of crying out against the Forest Service’s management of LBL, pointing out what they saw as inconsistencies in their plan and making pleas to protect areas they once called home.

Lyon County’s Judge Executive says Land Between the Lakes Officials may rewrite their controversial draft Scenery Management Plan. Wade White’s comments come following a meeting with LBL Area Supervisor Tina Tilley.

Land Between the Lake’s officials are addressing some confusion about their draft Scenery Management Plan which has raised concern among those who disagree with Forest Service management of the National Recreation Area.

Offices and facilities at Land Between The Lakes National Recreation Area will not re-open Thursday as initially planned.

Staff have been working to clear layers of ice from LBL roads and parking lots in preparation for the return of visitors, but Area Supervisor Tina Tilley says the roads remain too slick for driving. 


The impending winter storm has prompted Land Between The Lakes National Recreation Area to close all facilities by 5 PM Thursday.  

All visitors will be asked to leave, including campers in backcountry areas.

Earlier this month, the Land Between the Lakes National Recreation Area welcomed its new area supervisor, Tina Tilley.  Tilley succeeds Bill Lisowsky, who retired at the end of 2012.  Todd Hatton paid


Former National Forest System Ranger Tina Tilley is Land Between the Lakes new Area Supervisor. Tilley replaces Bill Lisowsky who retired at the end of 2012.

Before coming to LBL, Tilley worked in the National Forest System as a district ranger in North Carolina. She has also worked as an information specialist at the Tonto National Forest in Arizona.
