Mayfield 9-1-1 Calls Going to KSP

 Mayfield Mayor Teresa Cantrell is set to broker an interlocal agreement between the city and the Kentucky State Police Post 1 to provide 9-1-1 dispatching services.

The Mayfield City Council recently gave unanimous consent for Cantrell to seek the partnership.

Delta Regional Authority Hosts Free Medical Clinic For Mayfield Residents

More than 100 people received free medical care on the first day of a week-long run for a free clinic in Mayfield.  The medical services are part of an Innovative Readiness Program hosted by the Delta Regional Authority  in partnership with the Department of Defense. The program provides budding military doctors training in disaster response situations before being deployed to duty.

Mayfield City Council Passes Public Area Smoking Ban Ordinance

Mayfield has passed a new city-wide smoking ban in public buildings and restaurants.

The city council approved the ordinance's second reading yesterday 5 to 4.  It passed the first reading last month 6-4. The ordinance is modeled after Paducah’s smoking ban. 

Mayor Teresa Cantrell said the ordinance had been in the works for about 18 months and that it was out of concern for the health of residents as well as employees.

Mayfield Seeks Funding To Build Farmers' Market Pavillion

Mayfield City Officials are seeking grant funding to buy land for a new farmers’ market.  Mayor Teresa Cantrell said currently the town's market has no permanent home and sets up on the downtown square on Saturday mornings and a borrowed church parking lot on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons. 

“We thought that was something communities needed, especially small rural communities like Mayfield," said Cantrell. "We need our farmers’ market and they needed a home to conduct their activities. It needs to be a visible place where they can get drive-by traffic and have regular hours.”

Mayfield City Council Passes Smoking Ban Ordinance First Reading

The Mayfield City Council has passed the first reading of a city-wide smoking ban ordinance with a 6-4 vote. Mayor Teresa Cantrell says yesterday’s vote is the first step to ban smoking in public places like restaurants and other businesses.

“We’ve been working on this for a little over a year and we did a community poll and it was overwhelmingly in support,” she says.

Mayfield Considers Smoking Ban

The City of Mayfield could possibly ban smoking in public. This comes after a statewide ban failed in the Kentucky House.

Mayor Teresa Cantrell says there’s wide community support for a smoking ban. She says a public survey showed only 2 out of the 70 respondents were against a ban. Cantrell says a smoking ban wouldn’t just benefit a business’s patrons.

Cantrell Elected to KLC Executive Board

The Kentucky League of Cities has elected Mayfield Mayor Teresa Cantrell to the group’s Executive Board. The new position comes after her election to the KLC’s Board of Directors last year. Cantrell will continue to serve in her previous position as well as the new one. She says the top two items on the upcoming KLC agenda are Retirement Reform and City Revenue Issues.
