Kentucky Gov. Beshear Adds More Synthetic Drugs to Schedule 1 List

Kentucky Governor Steve Beshear has signed an emergency regulation adding six newly identified synthetic cannabinoids to the state’s controlled substance list. The regulation goes into effect immediately. This is the first time the governor has exercised the right to ban drugs by administrative regulation.

House Judiciary Passes Two Bills to Overhaul Drug Enforcement

The Kentucky House Judiciary Committee has overwhelmingly passed two bills to overhaul the state's fight against drugs.

One bill deals with synthetic drugs. It would ban the manufacture of any drug that simulates an illegal substance or that contains certain chemical compounds.

The second bill is an overhaul of the KASPER system, which monitors prescription drugs. The bill puts KASPER under the Attorney General's office and requires the board of medical licensure to crack down on reports that prescriptions are being over prescribed.

Kentucky Lawmakers Renew Efforts Against Synthetic Drugs

Kentucky lawmakers are doubling down on efforts to fight synthetic drugs.

Synthetic drugs are chemically-altered substances meant to simulate other drugs. House Bill 481 would drastically increase penalties for crimes related to synthetic drugs. The measure is the General Assembly’s latest attempt to catch up with increasingly-popular methods of getting high.
