Superman Lands in Metropolis for Festival Kickoff

The annual Superman Celebration kicks off in Metropolis tonight.

The festival’s co-chair Karla Ogle says participants have four days of “super fun” ahead of them.

“Expect to see kind of a combination of Disney World and Halloween, and I think it’s going to be a very fun weekend with a little bit of everything,” she said.

Afternoon Round-Up 6/8/12

We’ll still be contributing to our web site regularly, writing our weekly “Dear Tom and Ray” column …and clanging pots in the office to make sure our staff is awake at least two hours a day.

Southern Illinois University Carbondale is getting a nearly $300,000 federal grant money meant to develop clean-coal technology.

Illinois will receive more than $7 million in federal housing grants to improve local communities by providing shelter and affordable housing.
