Heroin's resurgence in Kentucky

The varying forms of drug abuse have created challenges for both treatment and law enforcement professionals.  Much attention across Kentucky in recent years has centered on a growing prescription drug abuse problem.  State lawmakers have taken steps to crack down on improper pain clinics while also providing better communication within the medical profession about patients’ use of prescribed drugs.   Michelle Lofwall (LAHF-wall) is a University of Kentucky psychiatrist who treats prescription drug users.  She is beginning to see another alarm go off.

Crane, barge sink near Ledbetter bridge

Coast Guard officials have restricted traffic along the Tennessee River at Ledbetter as several sinking barges threaten to topple a construction crane into the water.  The barges provide a platform for the crane used in the building of a new bridge at the site.  Work had been shut down at the site for the Memorial Day weekend, and a worker for contractor C.J.

Gas Prices Saw Decline in April

The first three day holiday weekend of the summer is upon us and AAA says car travel will be the preferred mode of transportation.  In fact, Christopher Oakford at Bluegrass Triple A says more Kentuckians are expected to take a trip over 50 miles compared to last Memorial Day.  Oakford says the auto club took a survey of motorists back in April.

David Holt Plays the Pennington Folk Festival

David Holt is a musician, storyteller, historian, and a TV and radio host. If you listen to WKMS on Sunday’s, you may have heard him as the host of Riverwalk Jazz. But, as a musician in his own right, Holt is a four-time Grammy winner, and he’s a renowned storyteller and music historian. He will be entertaining at the Pennington Folk Festival in Princeton next weekend. Gary Pitts spoke with him about his upcoming performance. Click here for more information about the festival.
