Christian County Board Votes to Close Lacy and Holiday Elementary Schools

Christian County Schools will close two elementary schools in its district. The school board voted 3-to-2 last night to shutter Lacy and Holiday Elementary Schools in 2015.  

Communications Director Heather Lancaster said the board’s decision was difficult but was based on a needs-to-costs evaluation conducted by the school district’s facilities planning committee.

South Christian Elementary Closes Early for Power Outage

South Christian Elementary school is closing early today due to a power outage. Christian County Public Schools spokesperson Heather Aubin says the power outage can’t be fixed during the school day, but she expects workers will resolve the issue by Monday.

Obion County Schools Closed

Obion County, Tenn., schools are closed today and tomorrow due to flu and other illnesses. Assistant Director of School and Student Services Dale Hollowell says 548 students were absent Wednesday, which is about 15 percent of students countywide.

Reidland Schools Closed Due to Letter

UPDATE 5:10 p.m.

The McCracken County School District has issued a press release in regards to the letter sent to the Paducah Sun yesterday. The release says The Paducah Sun released the name of the letter's author to the McCracken County Sheriffs' Department, which has started an investigation into the threat.

The release also says both Reidland High School and Reidland Middle School will resume normal classes tomorrow.  The schools were searched by law enforcement and canine units. Both have been rendered safe.  WKMS has contacted the McCracken County Superintendent's office and the McCracken County Sheriffs' Department for interviews, but has not been obliged at this time.
