The top legislative priority of Kentucky’s Republican led Senate easily won approval Wednesday and now moves on to the Democratic House. Senate Bill One passed on a vote of 25 to 12, primarily along party lines.

Efforts to provide civil protections for people who break into vehicles to rescue a child or pet are detailed in two bills moving through the state senate.  

Both passed out of the judiciary committee last week.

Department of Energy

The state Senate this week passed a bill that would lift a moratorium on the construction of nuclear power plants in Kentucky.

The bill is sponsored by Sen. Danny Carroll, a Republican from Paducah. His district is home to the Paducah Gaseous Diffusion Plant, which has been in the process of shutting down.

Carroll said lifting the moratorium would help bring jobs that have been lost at the plant.

A Kentucky lawmaker thinks the legislature should consider some regulations on the disposal of wastes generated by hydraulic fracturing for natural gas.

State Senator Robin Webb said she’s especially concerned about the potential impact on groundwater.  Webb said Kentucky doesn’t have any rules regarding the disposal of such wastes and companies involved in fracking are considering the Commonwealth to locate dump sites.

Coyote Hunting Bill Approved by State Senate Committee
