Whitaker and Heath Differ over Lawmaker Pensions in 2nd District State House Forum

Candidates for Kentucky’s 2nd District State House of Representatives both say they won’t take a pension if elected in November, but they differ on whether or not a pension should be offered to lawmakers. Kentucky’s pension system is one of the worst in the country in terms of unfunded liabilities. Heath has endorsed a pension plan for lawmakers that two GOP candidates have proposed. That plan would change the current full pension for lawmakers to an optional 401K plan for incoming lawmakers.

Nesler on Second District Candidate Endorsement

While retiring western Kentucky legislators like Republican Senator Ken Winters and Democratic Representative Mike Cherry have publicly endorsed their party’s nominees, former Democratic Representative Fred Nesler has not. Nesler left his house seat in May to join Republican Agriculture Commissioner James Comer’s staff.

Local Candidates Talk Jobs, Economy at Fancy Farm

First District State Senate candidates focused on jobs, in their stump speeches at this weekend’s 2012 Fancy Farm Picnic. Democratic candidate Carroll Hubbard is making his second run at the position. Hubbard, a former U. S. congressman and Paducah lawyer, lost the race in 2008 to Ken Winters. Hubbard says voters should choose him because as a democrat he can work with democratic Gov. Steve Beshear.

NPR reports a 21-year-old college student from Texas gave half-a-million dollars to a Super-PAC, and now Thomas Massie will likely represent Kentucky's 4th Congressional District.

Graves County Business Owner Richard Heath is the Republican nominee for the 2nd District State House seat. Heath defeated fellow republican Patrick Fisher last night in the race to serve Graves County and a portion of McCracken.
