A national search for a permanent SIU Carbondale Chancellor could begin soon, as the university’s Board of Trustees are finalizing details for just how the process should go.


In a message from SIU President Randy Dunn, faculty, staff, and students were told of Sarvela's passing Sunday evening.

Dunn says Sarvela's character was one of his greatest strengths.

"As much as we value his many contributions as a mentor and a colleague, it is his friendship and compassion for those around him that we will miss the most."

Southern Illinois University President Randy Dunn greeted students, faculty, and staff during visits to Edwardsville and Carbondale Thursday.

SIU's President is retiring sooner than expected. Glenn Poshard will step aside at the end of this month.

Dunn to Leave YSU March 21

Randy Dunn will vacate the presidency of Youngstown State University on Friday, March 21, and then will have 30 days to move out of the Pollock House presidential residence, according to an agreement unanimously approved by the YSU Board of Trustees on Wednesday. Dunn is leaving to become Southern Illinois University's next president.

Southern Illinois University’s next president is Randy Dunn.

According to WSIU, Trustees made the announcement today at the SIU Edwardsville campus.

Board Chairman Randal Thomas says he doesn’t expect big changes from Dunn right away, but expects he’ll leave his mark sooner rather than later. 

Outgoing Murray State University President Randy Dunn said this week the controversial decision not to renew his contract was the result of a difference in philosophy between him and Board Chairman Constantine Curris. Dunn's last day as MSU President is July 8th.

The MSU Board of Regents voted against renewing Dunn’s contract 7-4 in a surprise move during a regularly-scheduled meeting in March. The vote came after a social gathering at which a quorum of regents was present.
