Ky. House Backs Funding for Child Care Rating Expansion

The Kentucky House is backing a significant expansion of the early child care provider rating system.   It will mean hundreds more child care centers will be able to tap into the “Star Rating” program offered by the state.  The expansion will necessitate training paid for by federal dollars through the “Race to the Top” grant program.

Kentucky Gets $44 Million For Early Childhood Education

Kentucky officials say they want to make the state's voluntary rating system for childcare facilities mandatory and they will have help in the amount of $44 million to do it.

That’s the amount of money Kentucky won as part of the federal government’s Race to the Top grant competition for early childhood education. It's the third round of such funding provided by the the U.S. Department of Education with help from the Department of Health and Human Services.

Green River Regional Educational Co-op Wins $40 million in Federal Grants

Kentucky's Green River Regional Educational Cooperative, or GRREC, is a winner an estimated $40 million in Federal Race to the Top District Funds. GRREC represents 23 Western Kentucky School Districts, including Union County, Daviess County and Owensboro Independent. U.S. Secretary of Education Arne  Duncan says this year’s Race to The Top saw many new school districts competing for funds.

IL Gets Grant for Early Childhood Education

Illinois is getting almost $35 million of federal aid for early childhood education. The Race to the Top Early Learning Challenge grant is funding a website informing parents of the quality of school programs in an effort to help them find the best place that matches their children’s needs. The money is also going toward professional development for early-childhood teachers, investments in efficiency, streamlining program administration and data systems and program evaluations.

Schools Say "Race To The Top" Funds Greatly Needed

Twenty-nine Kentucky school districts plan to apply for a new round of Race to the Top grants. The U. S. Department of Education will dole out $400 million to districts this December. The DOE wants recipients to use the money to personalize student learning.  Paducah Independent Schools superintendent Randy Greene says that’s exactly the kind of funding his district needs.

29 Kentucky School Districts Plan to Apply for Race to the Top funds

Twenty-nine Kentucky school districts plan to apply for a new round of Race to the Top grants. Those include three in western Kentucky: Christian County Schools, Paducah Independent Schools and Henderson County Schools. The U. S. Department of Education will dole out $400 million to districts for local-level improvements. Depending on size, winning districts may receive anywhere from $5 million to $40 million each.
