Kate Lochte meets Judy Schwender of the National Quilt Museum in Paducah to learn more about the exhibit of Civil War Era Quilts. This exhibit is open through October 8, featuring quilts made while the nation was being torn apart, from Arlan and Pat Christ's collection. Schwender talks about a few of the stand-outs, including quilts made by men of the Civil War era, and also how quilt-making has become popular in modern Japan.

Today on Sounds Good, we went live to the American Quilters Society Quilt Show and Contest in Paducah. Kate Lochte speaks with Tim Langlitz, marketing director of the Society, at the Expo and Convention Center in Paducah on opening day. They talk about how the quilt show got started, how men are defying the quilting stereotype, and some of the week's highlights. Click here for more about the Quilt Show.

We've met Jenny Bowker, wife of the former Australian Ambassador to Egypt, who initiated introducing Egyptian craftsmen's quilts to the world. We've spoken with Meredith Schroeder who co-founded the American Quilters Society and this year is being inducted into the Quilters Hall of Fame. Today, Kate Lochte brings an interview with the person who directs and organizes the American Quilters Society Show and Contest, which starts Wednesday at the Convention Center in Paducah. She opened by asking Bonnie Browning how many "hats" she actually wears in her work.

Starting out with husband Bill as a publisher of books on collectibles, Meredith Schroeder co-founded the American Quilter's Society or AQS, and this year she is being inducted into the Quilters Hall of Fame. They simply thought that quilts should be recognized as art. This notion changed both their business and their city. In late March Kate Lochte spoke with Meredith Schroeder to learn more.

WK&T featured Shirley Jackson on a recent magazine cover due to her use of its broadband services for making connections among quilters for socializing and for her business, Custom Quilting by Shirley. She specializes in the cover stitching and finishing of quilts, and says the internet has broadened her sources of inspiration.
