Many political leaders in the Ohio Valley approve of President Trump’s decision to withdraw the United States from the Paris climate agreement. But surveys indicate that public opinion across the region varies, with a slight majority saying they’d like the country to stay the course on climate change.

The City of Paris, Tennessee is offering empty lots to people who qualify for the U.S. Department of Agriculture Rural Development’s single family housing program.

The city will accept as little as $1 from qualified loan holders for the seven available lots.

Paris, Tenn. Voters Approve Local Option Sales Tax

Update: The Henry County Election Commission has updated the final tally for the local option sales tax vote. The referendum still passes by a margin of 1,365 for the tax and 449 against. 

The local sales tax option will increase the rate by half a cent starting this summer.

Henry County has a population of just over 32,000, an unemployment rate of 9.13% and plenty of room to grow, according to the Henry County Alliance. He says Henry County sits on one of the world's largest - and purest - ball clay deposits, largely untapped. From a retail standpoint, several establishments have opened up including CVS Pharmacies and Steak & Shake. A Hardees is currently under construction and a national chain restaurant may be arriving in the next couple of years as new strip centers are completed. A Paris, Tenn. man who says he was beaten and robbed last year has pleaded guilty to misdemeanor perjury.

Joe Williams had been charged with a Class D felony of a false report of arson or robbery. Williams’ attorney, Sunny Eaton of Nashville, said her client still stands by his account and merely admitted to omitting details in his original report which he later told police.
