Today at 11 a.m., WKMS News continues coverage of the candidates – and the issues – on the ballot this fall with a live debate from Murray State’s Crisp Center in Paducah on the proposed Paducah/McCracken County merger. McCracken County Judge-Executive Van Newberry will speak against the merger and Paducah businessman John Williams Jr.
A McCracken county man is leading a group formed to oppose the Paducah – McCracken County government merger. Accountant Allen Kleet says his group, No To Metro Inc., is for efficient government. But pro-merger group Paducah McCracken United cites smaller, more efficient government as an effect of the merger. Kleet says studies and experience show that isn’t likely, despite how the plan looks on paper.
Paducah and McCracken County merger proponents hope a new pro-merger website will boost support for the issue. The long discussed issue is on the November ballot. Paducah McCracken United members say the site allows citizens to access fiscal information regarding the proposed merger.
