The U.S. Department of Defense has awarded a $393,000 grant to the Pennyrile Area Development District in response to military budget cuts.

The grant comes after the DoD deactivated Fort Campbell’s 159th Combat Aviation Brigade last November, a move that decreased the base's active soldier population by 2,400.

The search committee met this morning in a closed meeting to find an administrator for the organization that's designed to mitigate the effects of impending layoffs at the Paducah Gaseous Diffusion plant.

The Purchase Area Development District is ending administrative services for an organization designed to ease the economic impact of the Paducah Gaseous Diffusion Plant's shutdown. The United States Enrichment Corporation ended its 1,000-employee operation at the Paducah plant in May.
