Medical professionals say there’s a lot of confusion across America about the Affordable Care Act, or Obamacare. Kentucky health care leaders are contacting residents individually and at public events to give them information and encourage them to enroll by the Dec. 15 deadline.

  West Kentucky Allied Services is getting the word out about Open Enrollment despite funding cuts for marketing and advertising Obamacare.


Wednesday was the first day to buy health insurance on in Kentucky. For about 80% of Kentuckians who buy a plan on the individual market, prices might actually go down.

For people who buy health insurance through the marketplace created by the Affordable Care Act, the 2018 open enrollment period begins in one week. But many consumers are confused about what to expect. No wonder.

Open enrollment for Medicare is October 15 through December 7. Plans will go in effect January 1. The Kentucky State Health Insurance Assistance Program (SHIP) is a free service that provides information, counseling and assistance to seniors and disabled individuals needing to sign up for Medicare. SHIP doesn't sell health insurance products, but offers guidance. Program Coordinator Kellie Oliver joins Kate Lochte on Sounds Good to explain the upcoming open enrollment.

Murray State University employees will have to wait a little longer in order to sign up for open enrollment for their health plans.
