Demolition of Old Ledbetter Bridge Continues

The demolition of the Old Ledbetter Bridge at Paducah continues as the final remains of the structure go down. The contractor has continued conventional demolition of the approach spans while engineers work on viable options for removing the in-water piers, which may take several weeks.

Contractors have demolished the third and final span of the Old Ledbetter Bridge with explosives.

A contractor for the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet wrapped up the first round of demolition on the former U.S. 60 Ledbetter Bridge this morning.

Kentucky Transportation Cabinet crews are preparing for the controlled demolition to part of the Old Ledbetter Bridge tomorrow morning.

The first truss section of the old Ledbetter Bridge is scheduled for demolition next week, weather permitting. The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet says C.J. Mahan Construction Company will bring down the bridge’s left descending truss using controlled explosives Thursday September 11.

A contractor for the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet is continuing to make progress on the demolition of the Old Ledbetter Bridge. The contractor has removed all the concrete decking from the 3 truss spans and has started removing decking on the eastern approach spans at the Livingston County end of the 85 year old structure.

The contractor submitted a demolition plan to the US Coast Guard for approval about a month ago.  The Coast Guard shared the plan with a river industry trade group and federal agencies for their input.   This week the US

Engineering analysis work is continuing toward the start of demolition on the Old Ledbetter Bridge crossing the Tennessee River between Livingston and McCracken Counties. Revised demolition plans for the 83 year old structure were submitted to the U.S. Coast Guard for review last week.

Demolition is on hold for the Old Ledbetter Bridge spanning the Tennessee River in McCracken County.

The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet reports that part of the Old Ledbetter Bridge over the Tennessee River collapsed early this morning. 

Kentucky State Police contacted KYTC engineers with word that the two land-based piers at the west end of the structure and the 3 approach spans supported on the McCracken County side of the river had dropped to the ground around 2:10 AM Sunday.
