Beshear Orders Flags at Half-Staff

Frankfort, KY – Flags at all state office buildings in Kentucky are at half-staff today in honor of a Fort Knox soldier who died while supporting Operation Enduring Freedom. The Department of Defense reports 21-year-old Specialist Mikayla Bragg, died Dec. 21 in Khowst province, Afghanistan. Gov. Beshear encourages individuals, businesses, organizations and government agencies to join in this tribute.

Whitfield Discusses 2012 Legislative Agenda

Murray, KY – Kentucky First District Republican Congressman Ed Whitfield is making several stops around his district tomorrow and Thursday to discuss his 2012 legislative agenda. Whitfield will be in Murray at 10:30 this morning at the CFSB Center prior to U.S. Senator Rand Paul's town hall meeting at 12:30. He will also make stops in Hopkinsville, Gilbertsville, Paducah, and Madisonville.

Beshear Says Gambling Amendment Will Be Available Before February

Frankfort, KY – It could be only a matter of days before Governor Steve Beshear unveils his plan for a constitutional amendment for expanded gambling.

The governor has been in talks for weeks with Democratic and Republicans lawmakers about how to word the amendment to make sure it s passed. In the Senate that means getting help from Republican state Senator Damon Thayer of Georgetown.

And while Thayer has said he s hoping for a slower process, Beshear told reporters today he wouldn t wait until February to introduce the bill.
