Frankfort, KY – In a rare joint meeting, the judiciary committees of both Kentucky General Assembly chambers will hear testimony on pseudoephedrine.
Pseudoephedrine (PSE) is the key ingredient in many over-the-counter cold medicines and is essential to meth production. Tomorrow, the House and Senate Judiciary committees will hear testimony on how to control PSE.
Murray, KY – Today's snowfall has worsened driving conditions in parts of our region. Kentucky Transportation official Keith Todd says trucks have been out in Ballard, Carlisle, Hickman, Fulton, and Lyon Counties salting bridges and overpasses. Todd says pavement temperatures have stayed above freezing so far today, but he expects those temperatures to drop soon and cause some slick spots later today.
Frankfort, KY – The current head of Kentucky's Abandoned Mine Land's Program has been promoted to Natural Resources Commissioner. Steve Hohmann will fill the position left vacant by the dismissal of Carl Campbell last year. The appointment has been well-received by both the environmental community and the coal industry. Kentucky Coal Association President Bill Bissett says he's had good experiences working with Hohmann, and would expect him to bring a balance similar to what Campbell brought to the position.
Murray, KY – Western Kentucky residents could see their first severe winter weather over the next few days. The National Weather Service in Paducah has issued a winter weather advisory for snow starting at 6 AM tomorrow and lasting until midnight tomorrow night. McCracken County's Emergency Management meteorologist Beau Dodson says the snow is due to an arctic blast coming through the region. Dodson says the cold air will cause some snow and freezing conditions, but isn't likely to stay long.
Frankfort, KY – As the year starts and the Kentucky General Assembly is in session, state education officials are trying to deal with numerous issues, including new common core standards, end-course-assessments, and teacher evaluations. But State Education Commissioner Terry Holliday says his biggest concern at this time is the budget.
