Beshear and Abramson Discuss "Dream Game" on ESPN

Appearing on ESPN’s Sportscenter, Governor Steve Beshear and Lt. Governor Jerry Abramson discussed the upcoming game between the Louisville Cardinals and Kentucky Wildcats in the Final Four of the NCAA tournament.

The excitement over the archrivals playing for a spot in the championship game spilled over into the political arena earlier this week when Louisville Mayor Greg Fischer and Lexington Mayor Jim Gray made a friendly wager over Saturday’s outcome.

Mayors of Louisville, Lexington Make Friendly Wager on Final Four Game

Louisville Mayor Greg Fischer presented his Lexington counterpart with a bottle of Woodford Reserve Bourbon today as part of a friendly wager on who will win the Final Four matchup between U of L and UK.

Fischer says Lexington Mayor Jim Gray needs to brace himself for a loss in New Orleans.

“I think later this week you all need to be focused on starting to medicate yourself because there’s going to be a huge disappointment in Catland come Saturday.”

Racers Finish Historic Run 31-2

The Murray State mens basketball team’s historic season ended Saturday when the Racers lost to Marquette 62-53.  Isaiah Canaan scored 16 points for Murray State. The Racers finished the season 31-2.

Racers Tip-Off Against Colorado State Tomorrow in NCAA Men's Basketball Tournament

The Murray State Racers start their 2012 NCAA men's basketball tournament run in Louisville tomorrow morning. They face off against the Mountain West Conference’s Colorado State Rams. The Racers went 30- 1 for the season, earning them a 6 seed from the Tournament Selection Committee. While the seed is relatively high for a one loss team, Racers Coach Steve Prohm says he thinks the decision was based more on the venue than their reputation. He says,

MSU Student Wins NCAA Track and Field Honors

Murray State junior Alexis Love has been named a U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association Second-Team All-America honoree for the 2012 NCAA Division I Indoor Season. Love finished 15th this past weekend in the 200-meter-dash at the NCAA Indoor Championships. Love is the first MSU track & field athlete to earn All-America honors since 1994.

MSU to Play Colorado State in NCAA Tournament

The Number 6 seed Murray State Racers celebrated Selection Sunday yesterday by getting ready for their first NCAA tournament opponent, eleven seed Colorado State.  The Racers will play the Rams this Thursday at Louisville’s KFC Yum! Center.  MSU Head Coach Steve Prohm says he’s glad the wait is over, so the OVC champions can concentrate on preparing to play Colorado State.  Tip off is set for 11:15 a.m. Central, on Thursday.

Western Kentucky Enters NCAA Tournament

Western Kentucky University’s basketball team has made its way into the NCAA tournament, despite a losing season record. The 15 and 18 Hilltopppers clinched the invite last night with a win over North Texas to take the Sun Belt Conference championship. Western Kentucky last participated in theNCAA tournament in 2009.

MSU Student Running in NCAA Championships

Murray State women’s track & field junior Alexis Love will be participating in the 2012 NCAA Indoor Championships. Love will be running in the 200-meter dash and is the first MSU student-athlete since the early 90’s to make it to the championship. She has set two school records this season, in both the 60 and 200 meter dash, and she claimed this year’s OVC 200 meter title. The Championships are this Friday and Saturday at Boise State University in Idaho.

MSU Basketball Continues Winning Streak

The Murray State Racers Thursday home match up with Tennessee State could net the Racers at least a tie for the regular season title in the OVC with a 12-0 record conference play. TSU  is coming to Murray having won their last five games and are looking to stop the Racer’s streak.  Winning their last game against U-T Martin ensured the Racer’s their 25th consecutive winning season, which ties them with Connecticut at fourth best winning  streak in the nation. Thursday’s game begins at 7:00pm at the CFSB center.
