State Government Audit Under Review

An audit of state government by the National Conference of State Legislatures is currently under “review” by Kentucky political leaders but the report hasn’t been made public.

A spokesman for the NCSL says on April 25 a preliminary draft of their report was delivered to Marcia Seiler, the acting director of the Legislative Research Commission, and to members of state House and Senate leadership.

Kentucky lawmakers have approved an internal audit of the state’s largest bureaucracy. The bipartisan National Conference of States Legislatures has been selected to audit the state Legislative Research Commission in the wake of scandal.

TN Governor Signs Parental Involvement Legislation

Tennessee Governor Bill Haslam has signed into law a proposal encouraging school districts to develop parental involvement contracts with students' parents.  Under the proposal, parents would agree to, at a minimum, review their student's homework and offer assistance when needed, sign report cards, ensure that their student is not truant.  They must also attend school functions, and make every effort to attend parent-teacher conferences.  According to the National Conference of State Legislatures, the law is similar to a proposal Michigan passed in 2001.  Another measure advancing in the T
