MSU Takes 15th OVC Championship

The Murray State Racers’ Men’s Basketball team won their 15th Ohio Valley Conference Tournament Championship Saturday night with a 54 to 52 win over Tennessee State at Nashville’s Municipal Arena.  The victory brings MSU’s season record to 30 and 1, as well as a 15th appearance in the NCAA Tournament for the Racers as the OVC’s automatic bid.  Murray State Forward Donte Pool was named the OVC Tournament’s Most Valuable Player.

Dunn’s Evaluation Still Ongoing

Murray State University President Dr. Randy Dunn’s five-year performance evaluation will likely be completed by the board of regents’ June meeting. Board Chairman Dr. Constantine Curris says this is the first comprehensive review of any President in the history of the University. He says a new policy the board adopted requires the evaluation after five years with the University. It entails meetings with various university stakeholders including faculty, staff, students and community leaders. The evaluation process has been ongoing since the board’s August meeting.

MSU Ceases Library Talks

The Murray State Board of Regents has unexpectedly suspended all internal and external conversations on building a new library. The board voted Friday to cease conversations on its number one agency bond project due to funding limitations and a bleak budget outlook. As severe weather struck our region this week many of you might have had weather radios alerting you of warnings to your county or the loud outdoor sirens you might be used to. This week, though as a Tornado Warning was issued for northern Calloway County residents in the storm’s path heard no out-door sirens, because there aren’t any.  WKMS’ Shelly Baskin speaks with Calloway County Emergency Management Director Bill Call to find out why.

Murray Group Submits Petition Calling For Alcohol Vote

A local group working to legalize the sale of packaged alcohol in Murray has submitted a petition to the Calloway County Clerk. Ray Coursey Jr. says he is in the process of verifying the signatures on the petition. To be considered valid, each signature must be matched with a registered voter who is a resident of Murray. Coursey says the group’s petition has more than enough signatures if they’re all valid.

City Sticker Debate Continues

MSU Students May be Required to Buy City Sticker

Murray city officials decided to delay a vote yesterday on whether to require students to purchase a city sticker. The city council read the latest version of the resolution, which gives Murray State students a 30 day grace period to buy the sticker. The grace period would be extended to anyone who moves into or begins working in Murray after the June 1 deadline. The sticker would cost a pro-rated amount of 36 dollars for students if purchased between August and May; not having one could incur a 100 dollar fine.
