New CMO at MCCH

Dr. Robert Tucker is the new Chief Medical Officer at the Murray-Calloway County Hospital. Tucker will serve solely part time as a liaison between physicians and hospital administrative staff whereas in the past the CMO was a practicing physician nominated by hospital admin. Previously, Tucker served as a MCCH consultant and a CMO and medical director in northern Virginia.

Mayor of Murray's Twin City Offers Insight

The city of Murray faces an all-too-common problem these days: a steady demand for services while facing the necessity of budget cuts. For other communities in the country, the outlook isn’t quite so grim. And what they’ve done, or not done, could be instructive. So, we looked for a city similar to Murray and came up with Oxford, Mississippi, home of the University of Mississippi. Both cover 10 square miles; they were incorporated within seven years of each other; and both are located in counties south of another county named Marshall.

Not long ago there was an eye-opening report about the transfer of wealth that aging baby boomers would create, and non-profits took note.  Next week there’s an educational program in Murray about the latest trends in philanthropy and how to harness them to enrich the quality of life in our area for generations.  Kate Lochte has more.

There's a Snake in our Substation

A snake was the cause of a power outage affecting Murray and parts of Calloway County this morning. Murray Electric Systems General Manager Tony Thompson says the 6 foot long serpent got into a substation, which tripped a relay to prevent any damage to the system. Thompson says MES customers were without service for around half an hour. The relay trip transferred to the TVA system as well, shutting off a West Kentucky Rural Electric substation. Thompson says there was no serious damage, and there shouldn't be any further interruption stemming from this incident.

Murray Half Marathon Road Closures

Several roads in Murray and Calloway County will be closed tomorrow morning for the Murray Half Marathon. Runners  start at the Center for Health and Wellness on Poplar Street at 7 a.m. Traffic will be restricted in downtown Murray, Central Park, and on U.S. Hwy 641. Stretches of Main Street, Poplar, Bailey Road and Poor Farm road will also be closed. The Murray Calloway Endowment for Healthcare hosts the marathon to promote health awareness. Organizers expect traffic to return to normal after 11 a.m. Below is a complete list of the roads affected by the event:
