Thieme Speaks at MSU Tech Summit

In a world of ever growing technology and global interconnectivity, privacy and security are increasingly rare commodities.  Richard Thieme is an author and lecturer who addresses the challenges posed by these new technologies, including the personal, and even spiritual transformations people undergo as they adapt to a new world.  He spoke this week at a technology summit at Murray State University.  Gary Pitts sat down with him to talk about the dangers of interacting with technology, and how to meet those challenges.

Prohm Talks to LSU

Louisiana State University says they've approached Murray State head coach Steve Prohm about filling their open coaching position. An LSU spokesperson tells WAFB in Baton Rouge they did meet with Prohm, but he is not a candidate for the coaching spot vacated by Trent Johnson. Johnson left LSU for the top spot at Texas Christian University earlier this week.

Racer Alums Follow Through

Kelsey Emme

Kelsey Emme is a freshman from Piedmont, South Dakota. She’s bubbly, outgoing and she’s likely a better shot than you. Emme is an up and coming member of MSU’s Rifle team; and much like another Racer team you may have heard of, she attended this year’s NCAA tournament in her sport, competitive shooting. She narrowly missed the finals, landing only four points short.

But unlike the Murray State basketball team, the rifle team struggles to keep itself funded.

“Oh yeah, rifle is a very expensive sport.”

Musica Brasiliera: A Conversation with Maestro Celso Machado

The Murray State University Classical Guitar Ensemble is fairly new to campus. Last year, the ensemble played in its first full concert with the string ensemble, and they will be doing so again this Tuesday evening. Much of the music from the first concert came from the Brazilian composer, Maestro Celso Machado. And this year, the ensemble will present the United States premier of Maestro Machado’s most recent composition for quartet, Suite Amazonas. Gary Pitts, a member of the ensemble, reports on the life and works of the composer.
