Racers win CIT Tournament

The Murray State Racers ended the 2013-14 season with a 65-57 win in the CollegeInsider.com Postseason Tournament over the Yale Bulldogs at the CFSB Center in Murray.

The Racers (23-11) won four games at home in the CIT to become the sixth champion of the event that

 Mercer University just gained national attention after stunning the Duke Blue Devils in the NCAA tournament. But just two years ago they won the CollegeInsider.com Postseason Tournament.

The Murray State Racers are hoping for similar results as they host the Yale Bulldogs Thursday in the CIT championship. John Null spoke with MSU Athletic Director Allen Ward about the Racers' long postseason run.

The men’s Racer basketball team faces off against the Pacific Tigers in the semifinal round of the Collegeinsider.com Tournament tonight.  The Racers enter the semis after knocking off Towson while the Tigers are fresh off a win over San Diego.

On Friday, amid a blistering second half rally that saw the Racers erase a double-digit deficit in their OVC tournament semifinal match-up against Eastern Kentucky, the fouling out of senior guard Dexter Fields with 1:18 left in the game seemed inconsequential. But after Cameron Payne’s last-second heave clanged off the rim, the gravity of that fifth foul became apparent: 23-year-old Fields’ career as a Racer was over.

"Voice of the Racers" Neal Bradley joins Tracy Ross on Sounds Good for a preview of the OVC Tournament. The Ohio Valley Conference returns to the Nashville Municipal Auditorium March 5-8. The Racers play Friday, against an opponent determined Thursday night. MSU earned a double-bye by winning the OVC West Division with a 13-3 record.
