MSU Searches for New Softball Coach

Murray State Athletics is searching for a new softball coach, after falling short of the OVC tournament championship this weekend. Athletics Director Allen Ward says current coach Jay Pyron will not return next season. Pyron finishes his career at Murray State with an overall record of 80-79 and 43-37 in OVC play. Ward did not give a reason for Pyron's departure.

Prohm Receives 1st Joe B. Hall Award

Murray State University men’s head basketball coach Steve Prohm is the first winner of CollegeInsider.com’s Joe B. Hall Award.  The award is named for the former head coach of the University of Kentucky Wildcats, who led the team from 1972 until 1985.  The award is presented to the top first year coach in Division I College Basketball.  Prohm led the Racers to a 31 and 2 record, as well as the third round of the NCAA tournament in his first season.

Prohm with Racers Next Season: Agrees to New Contract

After what is arguably the most successful season in Racer Basketball history, Murray State University has renegotiated and extended the contract of head basketball coach Steve Prohm. The one-year extension means Prohm’s contract now runs through May 31, 2016.

Canaan Named All-American

Murray State University point guard Isaiah Canaan has been named to the All-American team by the National Association of Basketball Coaches . The Murray State junior led the Racers to their 15th appearance in the NCAA tournament. Both the Sporting News and USBWA have named Canaan to their all-American squads. Canaan is also up for a number of collegiate awards, including the Wooden, Cousy and Henson awards.

Prohm and Canaan Coming Back to MSU

Both Murray State Head Basketball Coach Steve Prohm and point guard Isaiah Canaan say they’ll be back at MSU next season with the goal of taking the Racers to even greater heights after this season’s top 10 ranking and NCAA tournament berth.  Prohm will likely be a top commodity in coaching searches this offseason after leading Murray State to a 31-2 record that included an NCAA tournament victory in his first season. For now, he says he wants to stay in Murray. Canaan says he’ll assess his future in the coming weeks after averaging a team-high 19 points per game.

Racers Finish Historic Run 31-2

The Murray State mens basketball team’s historic season ended Saturday when the Racers lost to Marquette 62-53.  Isaiah Canaan scored 16 points for Murray State. The Racers finished the season 31-2.

2012 NCAA Tournament: MSU Pre-Game Party & Game Information

The Murray State Racers (31-1) won their second round game against Colorado State University. The Racers will now play No. 3 seed Marquette on Saturday, March 17th, at the KFC Yum Center in Louisville, Kentucky. The MSU Alumni Association will be hosting the MSU Pre-game Party at the Sports & Social Club (4th Street Live Plaza) starting at 1:30 p.m. (EST).

Racers Tip-Off Against Colorado State Tomorrow in NCAA Men's Basketball Tournament

The Murray State Racers start their 2012 NCAA men's basketball tournament run in Louisville tomorrow morning. They face off against the Mountain West Conference’s Colorado State Rams. The Racers went 30- 1 for the season, earning them a 6 seed from the Tournament Selection Committee. While the seed is relatively high for a one loss team, Racers Coach Steve Prohm says he thinks the decision was based more on the venue than their reputation. He says,
