Murray State University alumna Alexis Love is in Eugene, Oregon this weekend trying to qualify for this summer’s Olympics in Rio de Janeiro.

UPDATE: Love did not qualify for the next round of trials in the women's 100 meter dash. She finished 29th out of 33 competitors on Saturday. Love still has a chance to qualify for the Olympics, however, with the women's 200 meter dash trials beginning Friday, July 8.

Murray State point guard Cameron Payne has been named the 2014-2015 Ohio Valley Conference Male Athlete of the Year.  The sophomore was chosen in voting by OVC athletics directors and sports information directors. Payne is the ninth Murray State student athlete to win the honor since 1980 and the first since Isaiah Canaan was named in 2012.

Murray State University has received a quarter of a million dollar donation to complete funding for the new Hall of Champions. 

Former NFL player and MSU football Captain Bob Burton made the donation. 

Murray State Women’s Golf Team Take OVC Title

The Murray State Women’s Golf Team won their ninth Ohio Valley Conference Championship Wednesday, April 23 with a final round 310. Freshman Sydney Trimble was named to the OVC All-Tournament Team. With the victory, Murray State earned the OVC's automatic bid into the NCAA Championship. The win continues a streak of each class in the Racer Women’s Golf program winning at least one OVC championship that began when MSU coach Velvet Milkman started the program 21 years ago.

The men’s Racer basketball team will face off against the Eastern Kentucky Colonels in the semifinal round of the Ohio Valley Conference tournament tonight at 9 p.m.

With the close of the year’s major-league baseball season, and as ball fields lie dormant for a short winter hiatus, one local baseball fan isn’t quite done.

Bill Rayburn and his replica 1800s bat company will continue to fill orders and produce artisan baseball bats that represent different periods of America’s favorite pastime. Rayburn, in his  little workshop west of Murray makes a little piece of baseball history every day.

Rayburn really likes baseball, and he has ever since he was a kid.
