Murray Art Guild Seeks Local Artists for 'Visual Evidence'

Murray Art Guild is calling for entries for its 26th annual exhibition celebrating local and regional contemporary artists. MAG Director Debi Danielson joins Kate Lochte for more about Visual Evidence 2014 - the entry deadline is Wednesday, February 19. The opening reception is March 15.

Murray Art Guild's 3rd Annual Empty Bowls Project

The Murray Art Guild and partners host a 3rd Annual Empty Bowls Project to benefit Needline of Murray and Calloway County Friday. Guild Director Debi Danielson is here with Nicole Schmittou, representing MSU Nutrition students cooking the soup that will go in the bowls after they are made. Debi describes the project - an effort to fight hunger needs in the community. The bowls are made by local artists and volunteers - all are welcome. A fundraising event is then held, where the bowls are sold as a donation. This event is Friday, (October 18) from 7 to 10 pm at the Murray Art Guild. See more on the Murray Art Guild website.

Murray Art Guild's City Wide Art Hop

Debi Danielson, Executive Director of the Murray Art Guild speaks with Kate Lochte on Sounds Good about the Guild's City Wide Art Hop this Friday (October 4). Five locations host seven exhibitions. The event begins at the Guild (500 N. 4th St) with "From One Generation to the Next" by George Beard and Justin Roberts: Willow. The second stop is Miller Center (201 S. 4th) with "PROOFS photography & the Cardboard ARTcade. Third stop is 412 Main St. (next to Mugsy's) showcasing "Out of the Dark: Murray High School Student Art Show" arranged by instructor Ted Dotson. The fourth stop is at the MSU Clara Eagle Galleries (6th floor Fine Arts Building, 15th & Olive) with "Goldfields" photography in the main gallery and "Simulacra" works in clay in the upper gallery. And the final stop is at the MSU Curris Center Gallery (bottom floor Curris Center at Chestnut St.) with "Iowa MFA Candidates" featuring work in metal, ceramics, print and painting. Raising Money for Needline of Calloway County One Bowl at a Time

Tonight from 5 to 7 p.m., The Murray Art Guild hosts an Empty Bowl soup dinner to raise money for Needline of Calloway County. Guild Director Debi Danielson visits Sounds Good with a few of the hand-made bowls contributed by local artists. The conversation covers stunning statistics about hunger in our county and Commonwealth. The dinner is out doors on the grounds of the Guild at 500 North 4th Street, and while there are over 200 bowls ready for the soup made by MSU Nutrition students, Danielson says there will be lines and the bowls will go quickly.
