Kentucky Arts Council

The Kentucky Arts Council is awarding more than $110,000 to 11 non-profit arts organizations in our area.  

The money is part of the larger $1.2 million Kentucky Arts Partnership aiding 91 nonprofits across the Commonwealth.

Murray Art Guild hosts their annual Summer Art Party tomorrow night from 6 to 9 pm. A celebration of local arts, the event features live music from The Savage Radley and Eddy Grove Duo, artists doing demonstrations, alla prima by Joy Thomas, and a new exhibit by Murray State Alumna Frances Wells. Murray Art Guild hosts their 27th annual exhibition of work by local artists in "Visual Evidence," which opens in conjunction with the Community Art Hop this April. The Guild's Executive Director Debi Danielson stops by Sounds Good to speak with Kate about the competition and about her own exhibit on display March 6 of photography related to the "Art of Caregiving" project organized by Constance Alexander.

Holiday shopping begins with several local art sales and festivals around the region this weekend. Murray Art Guild's director Debi Danielson joins Kate Lochte on Sounds Good because tonight, tomorrow and Sunday the Miller Center on Murray's Courthouse Square features the cornucopia of items available in its annual Holiday Sale, featuring a variety of mediums crafted by local artists.

The Murray Art Guild hosts its first annual Garden Walk event this Saturday, featuring art, live local music, food and activities for kids. Director Debi Danielson visits Sounds Good for a preview, including insight into the beginnings of a gourd tunnel!

The Kentucky Arts Council features Murray artist Eva King on its website for the month of August. Eva King cites American artists Ellis Wilson, Jacob Lawrence and Jonathan Green her influences. She has painted local scenes for years, inspired by the countryside through which she enjoys running, but has recently turned to a new medium: cut paper. Kate Lochte speaks with King on Sounds Good.

Murray Art Guild 'Side by Side' 2014 is now on display in the Guild Gallery. Sponsored by VSA Kentucky, a statewide organization that works to incorporate the arts for students with disabilities, the project pairs local students with artists in the community to create original, collaborative artwork. Murray Art Guild Executive Director Debi Danielson brings some creations to our studio and describes how the kids and artists worked together.
