  The Greater Metropolis Convention and Visitors Bureau is dedicating the 39th Superman Celebration to the memory of the ‘First Lady of Metropolis.’ Noel Neill portrayed Lois Lane in the Adventures of Superman television series and died last summer. Bureau Director Trish Steckenrider said a ‘Best Lois Lane’ costume contest and Hollywood Ball will be added to the celebration in Neill’s honor.

Metropolis, Illinois voters re-elected mayor Billy McDaniel in a local election Tuesday night. McDaniel said on Facebook he is "honored to serve the people of Metropolis for another four years."

Honeywell is reducing production capacity and cutting 22 jobs at their Metropolis plant due to ongoing challenges in the nuclear industry.

The Massac County Clerk’s Office is holding a recount for a ballot initiative that failed to pass by a single vote. The initiative to increase the county’s sales tax by 1 percent was defeated 3,319 votes to 3,318.

The first actress to play Superman's love interest on screen has died at the age of 95.

The city of Metropolis, Illinois is expecting to attract a large crowd this weekend with the kickoff of its annual Superman Celebration. 20,000-30,000 people are expected to attend the celebration now in its 38th year.

Traffic will be restricted to one lane on the I-24 Ohio River Bridge between Metropolis, IL and Paducah starting Monday. Initially it will be for eastbound traffic only. Twenty bearings will be replaced. Tuesday morning, east- and westbound traffic will be stopped at each end of the bridge for 10 minutes between 5 and 6 a.m. This is to do prep work for the bearing replacement.

The Greater Metropolis Convention & Visitor's Bureau has a new director, returning to the position she initially helped create. On Sounds Good, Matt Markgraf speaks with director Trish Steckenrider about how the organization has grown, initiatives coming next year and some lesser known aspects of tourism in the community.
