Kentucky lawmakers have approved a bill altering the medical malpractice system by creating panels of medical providers to review claims of error or neglect.

Medical malpractice and neglect lawsuits would have to be reviewed by a committee of doctors before they head to court under a bill that narrowly passed the state House of Representatives on Wednesday.

  The largest verdict in Weakley County, Tenn., history has been handed down in a medical malpractice lawsuit brought against HealthSouth Cane Creek Rehabilitation Hospital and one of its doctors.

The jury required the hospital pay $15.2 million to 23-year-old plaintiff, Cody Wade of Martin.
