A lane restriction on a Ledbetter bridge undergoing repairs is being lifted for a day and a half starting Friday. The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet says the lane restriction on the U.S. 60 Tennessee River Bridge that connects McCracken County to Livingston County will be lifted beginning this afternoon and is expected to return early Sunday.

McCracken County Women Crashes Into Church Building

A McCracken County woman crashed her car into Shilonite Full Gospel Fellowship Church Saturday morning. The McCracken County Sheriff’s office tells the West Kentucky Star that 18-yea-old Tiffany Johnson was trying to clean the inside of her windshield when she ran off the road and into the church. Johnson was taken to Western Baptist Hospital with minor injuries. The church building also sustained minor damage in the accident.

With a 40 percent margin, McCracken County and Paducah residents voted against merging their city and county governments yesterday.

McCracken County Animal Control Director Fired

Jeff Brown has been fired from his position as McCracken County Animal Control Director. The Paducah Sun reports Judge-Executive Van Newberry says Brown did not resign voluntarily, but he refused to comment on the firing. Sheriff’s department Chief Deputy Mike Turnbow is the interim director while the Fiscal Court searches for a new director. 

Inaccurate reporting of testing scores from McCracken County’s adult education program has allowed West Kentucky Community and Technical College to get more money from the Commonwealth than it was qualified to receive. Kentucky adult education officials found student testing practices at WKCTC were not in compliance with state and federal policies and established ethical standards. Kentucky’s Adult Education agency requires the programs it funds to administer tests establishing a baseline education level teachers can plan around.

Kentucky State Police say a McCracken County sheriff’s deputy shot a man who waved a handgun and sword at him. Deputy Jared Rivera was called Saturday night to a southern McCracken County residence in response to reports the man inside was suicidal. As Rivera approached the house, he found 50-year-old Michael Lakin inside with a handgun. When the officer returned to his vehicle, Lakin appeared in the doorway with the gun and a sword. Rivera ordered him to drop the weapons, but Lakin instead came toward him.

Paducah and McCracken County merger proponents hope a new pro-merger website will boost support for the issue. The long discussed issue is on the November ballot. Paducah McCracken United members say the site  allows citizens to access fiscal information regarding the proposed merger.

Heath Nominated in Special Election

Graves County business owner Richard Heath will be on the ballot for State Representative twice on November 6th.

McCracken County Schools announced the principal of its new consolidated high school this week. Michael Ceglinski has been involved in plans for the school combining students from Reidland, Heath, and Lone Oak since its early stages.
