McCracken Animal Shelter Task Force Recommends Partnership with Humane Society

McCracken County’s Animal Shelter Task Force is recommending the Humane Society there partner with the county’s animal control.  The plan, approved by the task force 6 to 3 Tuesday and sent to the Fiscal Court, has one director overseeing the operations of both Animal Control and Humane Society operations.

Judge Overturns Conviction for Paducah Woman

A McCracken Circuit judge has overturned the conviction of a woman accused of improperly euthanizing animals at a Paducah shelter. This past August, a jury deliberated only 30 minutes before returning the guilty verdict against Dalena Hall for actions taken last year at the McCracken County Humane Society. Police say she was not certified to euthanize animals but was doing so anyway. Hall appealed the conviction and Circuit Court Judge Tim Kaltenbach ruled in her favor.

Humane Society Whistleblower Fired

The McCracken County Humane Society has fired the kennel manager at shelter who recently testified against fellow employees for performing improper euthanasia. The Paducah Sun reports MCHS President James Shumaker fired Jeremiah Robertson because he was insubordinate. Robertson says he thinks his termination was unfair and says he has contacted a lawyer. One of the employees charged with improper euthanasia continues to work at the facility.

Whistleblower barred from job at animal shelter

The man who conducted an undercover investigation leading to charges against two employees of the McCracken County Humane Society has been banned from his job at the facility. Humane Society Board President James Shumaker told The Paducah Sun that the board would likely decide on Jeremiah Robertson’s employment today. Robertson gave video and audio recordings to the sheriff's department that helped detectives investigate euthanasia specialist Beau Anderson and office manager DaLena Hall. Hall was found guilty of 10 counts of euthanizing an animal without a proper license.

Animal Rights Case Progresses

A pair of former McCracken County Humane Society employees accused of animal cruelty will be tried separately. According to The Paducah Sun, Assistant County Attorney Todd Jones said Beau Anderson will be tried on nine counts of animal cruelty separately from current general manager DaLena Hall. However, the pair will still be tried together on forgery and unlawful euthanasia charges. Anderson and Hall are accused of forging euthanasia documents.
