The city of Metropolis, Illinois is expecting to attract a large crowd this weekend with the kickoff of its annual Superman Celebration. 20,000-30,000 people are expected to attend the celebration now in its 38th year.

Cement manufacturer Lafarge has announced they are no longer expanding operations at their plant in Massac County, Illinois.

The plan had been to add a third kiln at the Joppa Cement Plant which would have created around 50 new jobs.

An Illinois non-profit advocacy group for historic preservation released their twenty-first list of the most endangered historic places in the state.

The Massac County , Ill. Circuit Court is moving to an emergency courtroom as conditions at the courthouse continue to deteriorate.

Massac County officials will have to look into different funding avenues to repair the 74-year-old courthouse. Voters rejected a 1 percent sales tax to fund the renovations in a vote Tuesday night.

The Greater Metropolis Convention & Visitor's Bureau has a new director, returning to the position she initially helped create. On Sounds Good, Matt Markgraf speaks with director Trish Steckenrider about how the organization has grown, initiatives coming next year and some lesser known aspects of tourism in the community.

The earliest dates of activity at the Kincaid Mounds in Massac County, Illinois, go back to 1050 A.D. It was once a large village, the capital of a Native American chiefdom, which existed until 1400 A.D., says John Schwegman of the Kincaid Mounds Support Organization. On Sounds Good, Austin Carter speaks with Schwegman about the Archaeology Field Day at the site this Saturday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

One of the events includes a benefit for the Massac Theatre, an art-deco movie theater and stage from the 1930s. The city of Brookport, Illinois and Massac County will receive a little more than $1.8 million in state funding to aid in recovery from last November’s deadly tornadoes.

A Metropolis, Ill. bank is donating its current building and some residential property to Massac County to house some government functions currently located at the Massac County Courthouse. The estimated $3.5 million worth of property comes from Banterra Bank.
