The Murray Lions club is one of the oldest in the area, founded in 1939, and is also one of the largest in Kentucky - with 161 members. Their annual auction raises funds for community projects, from the KidSight program offering free vision screenings to young children to the local skate park and the renaissance park. On Sounds Good, Matt Markgraf speaks with Vice President and Auction Chair Paul McCreary about a change to their auction format - now moving to an online format with expanded opportunities for items and bidding.

Detecting Vision Problems in Early Childhood

Terri Long is one of several volunteers with the Murray Lions Club who are trained to perform FREE vision screening tests for children ages 6 months to 6 years, catching vision problems that could impede education and worse, cause death. So far the Murray club has screened over 1,000 kids. Long says that she can make appointments for day care centers and schools who want to provide this FREE screening for their children upon parent notification and approval. Lions Club Auction Helps Fund Eyecare Services

The Murray Lions Club Annual Auction to raise money for eye care assistance in a seven county region. The auction starts Monday next week and goes through Thursday, airing from 6 to 9 p.m. Former Club President Jim Nance joined Angela Hatton to explain what’s at the auction this year, and what kinds of assistance it makes possible.
