Kentucky Transportation Cabinet engineers say the biggest traffic surprise during the total solar eclipse was the immediate surge of outbound traffic after the eclipse ended. 


Kentucky Transportation Cabinet Spokesman Keith Todd says travelers should bring “a five gallon bucket of patience” when coming to see the total solar eclipse.

A popular rest stop on the Wendell Ford-Western Kentucky Parkway closed over the weekend. The Beaver Dam rest area, located at mile marker 75 in Ohio County, was a well known stop for western Kentucky drivers making trips to Louisville, Lexington and Frankfort.

Update Wednesday Morning: KYTC has expanded pre-treatment due to an increase in projected snowfall accumulation of up to 2 inches, particularly in the northern part of District 2, along the Ohio River. The 'supertanker' is operating on I-69 between Madisonville and Henderson.


Friday: The US 68/KY 80 Eggners Ferry Bridge is now open to pedestrian and bike traffic.

A round of arctic temps and winter weather could cause hazardous road conditions this weekend.  


Kentucky Transportation Cabinet contractors are starting construction a new half a million dollar bridge for KY 866/Paradise Road in Livingston County on Monday.

The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet is holding a public meeting to discuss replacing the US 60 Smithland Bridge.  

KYTC conducted a scoping study in 2013 which found that the current bridge over the Cumberland River had a sufficiency rating of 32 points out of 100 due to narrow lane and shoulder width. An engineering appraisal also came back with the comment “intolerable – replace.”
