Extension Deadline Nears for Kynect Open Enrollment

Kentuckians have just a little more than one day left to apply for health insurance through the state’s health benefits exchange, kynect.

Kentucky extended its open enrollment deadline for those who couldn’t finish the application by the original March 31 deadline. Calloway County kynnector Susan Hood says the extension is mainly for those who wish to purchase qualified health plans, those eligible for tax credits and subsidies.

Kynect Extending Enrollment Period Due to High Demand During Initial Deadline

Kentucky’s health benefits exchange kynect is extending its enrollment period due to high demand during the initial March 31 deadline.

The extension for applications begins today and ends April 11. Kentuckians who completed their applications by the initial deadline can select a plan through April 15, with coverage beginning May 1.

'Sign Up Saturday' Encourages Kentuckians to Enroll in Health Insurance Before Deadline

With a major deadline looming, nearly 300-thousand Kentuckians have signed up for insurance through the state's health benefit exchange.

To avoid a tax penalty next year, people must have purchased insurance by March 31st, or at least be insured for nine months of the year.

Steve Beshear couldn't help but chuckle during the State of the Union speech when President Obama said, "Kentucky's not the most liberal part of the country."

Obama was singling out his fellow Democrat for being the rare Southern governor who has fully implemented the Affordable Care Act, expanding Medicaid and running a state health insurance exchange that launched far more smoothly than the federal model.

Ky. Insurance Plan for High-Risk Individuals Ends Tomorrow

  Kentucky’s state-run insurance plan for high-risk individuals ends Tuesday, making way for mandatory health insurance coverage under the Affordable Care Act.

Kentucky state Rep. Steve Riggs of Louisville helped sponsor the legislation that implemented Kentucky Access fourteen years ago, and says the program has served a good purpose.

KY Sees Insurance Rush Ahead of Monday Deadline

Kentucky has seen a surge in sign-ups for Medicaid and medical insurance as Monday’s deadline approached for those who want coverage to begin next week.  Kentucky Health Benefit Exchange spokeswoman Gwenda Bond says about 100,000 people have signed up, most of them on Medicaid.  Bond says enrollment has gone from about 1,000 to 3,000 people a day in the past week.

Governor Beshear Takes A Bow For Successful Kynect Rollout

Kentucky Governor Steve Beshear says the state’s implementation of the federal health care law is one of his administration's top accomplishments in 2013.

Beshear says his decision to implement the state health care exchange and expand Medicaid coverage under the Affordable Care Act was an effort to address Kentucky’s historically low health rankings.

"As we do this, and as our people get affordable health coverage, their lives are going to change, the lives of their children are going to change, and over the next generation, we will have here in Kentucky a much healthier population, a much healthier workforce, and therefore a much more productive workforce," says Beshear.
