The Kentucky Supreme Court is set to hear an appeal lawsuit brought by the family of a man who was killed while serving as an informant for the Kentucky State Police.

Kentucky House Speaker Greg Stumbo has given the Kentucky State Police memos regarding documents shredded by the former head of the Legislative Research Commission.

Stumbo provided the documents to legislative security specialist Rick Devers along with a request for state police to take whatever action is deemed appropriate. House Republican Floor Leader Jeff Hoover asked for an investigation after former LRC Director Bobby Sherman returned to his office with other staffers on Sunday, two days after he resigned, and shredded documents. 

One of the staffers, Deputy Director Robert Jenkins, said the documents that were destroyed were either duplicates or were of a personal nature, including junk mail, mortgage papers and salary comparisons for LRC.


Kentucky State Police are increasing their presence on roadways this Labor Day weekend.  KSP Commander of Public Affairs Sergeant Richard Saint-Blancard said the stepped up enforcement coincides with the national “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” campaign.

The Kentucky State Police has released the names of two police officers and a state trooper involved in a shooting in Fulton last Sunday

Trooper Mark Franklin, Fulton Police Department patrolman Douglass Love and South Fulton, Tennessee Police patrolman Jason Pearcey all fired their weapons at Keith Dildine after he shot at the officers during a 90-minute standoff at his apartment. None of the officers were injured, but Dildine was shot several times.  He later came out of the apartment without incident.

One person is dead after a house fire early this morning in Hazel.

Kentucky State Police Public Affairs Officer Jay Thomas said Calloway County Dispatch received a 911 call at 4:42 a.m. The Hazel Fire Department and Calloway County Fire Rescue responded to the scene at 820 Third St. shortly afterward.

A federal judge has dismissed a Madisonville woman's lawsuit regarding her daughter's 17-year-old unsolved kidnapping case.

U.S. District Judge Thomas B. Russell ruled that Sarah Teague  brought her case to court too late to be prosecuted and that her allegations lack merit.

Three people died in two separate car accidents on US 641 south of Murray this morning.

The Kentucky State Police say a 6 a.m. accident first claimed the life of 38-year-old Bobby Alexander of Camden, Tennessee. Police say Alexander crossed over the center lane hitting another vehicle driving southbound about a mile south of Murray. Alexander was pronounced dead on the scene.

A new Kentucky State Police crime lab is open in Madisonville.

The lab serves all of western Kentucky and replaces one the KSP outgrew. Western lab commander Lt. Mark Mayes says the completion of the lab ends a four year project.

He says the new building is about 1,900 square feet larger to allow more space to analyze evidence, check blood alcohol levels and conduct polygraph tests.

Kentucky State Police Investigate Trigg County Shooting

The Kentucky State Police are investigating the shooting of a 2-year-old child in Trigg County.

Authorities said they were called to the home of David Southwick near Cadiz Tuesday evening.

Officers found the child with a non-life-threatening gunshot wound to the head. Although the investigation is continuing, police say the shooting appears accidental.
