WKMS Documentary Wins National Journalism Award

The Society of Professional Journalists (SPJ) announced today that the WKMS News Documentary “Kentucky Dam – Power for the People” produced by Todd Hatton and Chad Lampe, is a recipient of a 2013 Sigma Delta Chi Award for excellence in journalism.

Media Release: WKMS News presents Kentucky Dam Power for the People

Murray State’s NPR station, 91.3 WKMS presents the second program in its “Sounds Good Documentary Series” with a re-airing of Kentucky Dam Power for the People on Tuesday, June 25 at noon, during the second hour of Sounds Good with Tracy Ross. The special hour-long documentary underwritten, in part, by Hunter Marine of Nashville and Paducah, first aired Sunday, June 3, and chronicles the Dam’s inception, construction, and impact on the region through human stories. A soundtrack of music and archival newsreels help set the scene for the documentary.

WKMS News Presents "Kentucky Dam: Power for the People" 6/2

WKMS News continues its Sounds Good Documentary Series with its latest offering, Kentucky Dam: Power for the People. The hour-long program debuts Sunday, June 2nd at 9:00 a.m. The Kentucky Dam is the Tennessee Valley Authority's largest at 8,500 ft. long moves more than a million cubic feet of water per second.

Two Missing After Capsize

Crews search for boaters after capsize near Kentucky Dam.

Two men are missing after a pontoon boat capsized on the Tennessee River around 11 this morning. The Grand Lakes Rescue Squad responded to the call after the boat was torn apart below Kentucky Dam. One man was rescued and taken to an area hospital. WPSD reports that crews from 7 different agencies are still searching for the two missing men.
