There's been a sizeable increase in resolutions to school violations across Kentucky.  That's according to research released last week from the Kentucky Center on School Safety.  For the first time, Center Director Jon Akers says the report includes data on in-school removals.  "Far more kids are put into in-school removal, maybe for an hour, sometimes a couple of hours, or sometimes for a couple of days.  But, we never recorded that in our reports heretofore.  It was never given to us in that format," said Akers.

The Kentucky Center for School Safety, housed in the Murray State University College of Education, is testing a new tipline to help students or parents report any unsafe situation to school personnel anonymously.

The program is called the Safety Tipline Online Prevention, or STOP!.

This is Kentucky Safe Schools Week (October 20-26). Kentucky Center for School Safety Resource Center Director Karen McCuiston  is promoting awareness that bullying, violence and risky behaviors threaten school safety and visits with Kate Lochte on Sounds Good.

Western Kentucky is a region whose residents have known the horror of a deadly school shooting. Those plans deal with a range of possibilities: from fire, train derailment, and earthquakes to an armed intruder or angry parent.
