In our monthly "Puppies Sound Good" segment, we met Beasley today, a scruffy and very friendly puppy up for adoption at the Humane Society of Calloway County. Todd Hatton speaks with Executive Director Kathy Hodge about Beasley and upcoming events: paint your pet night and an animal academy day camp for kids.

Chad Lampe, WKMS

Today we met Rhett Butler, a loveable large puppy. He weighs 50 pounds, is six months old and "as solid as can be," says Kathy Hodge of the Humane Society of Calloway County. His breed started a discussion involving Staffordshire terrier to a border collie lab mix. He's mostly black with a white stripe on his face and white paws. His foster parent says he tends to be very quiet.

For the final puppies sound good special of 2015, we meet Lola, a sweet, fun-loving black lab mix puppy. She enjoyed meeting everyone at the station who came to greet her and played tug-of-war with her chew toy before heading into the studio. Kathy Hodge of the Humane Society of Calloway County also talks with Tracy Ross about the 2016 Pet Calendar and photos with 'Santa Claws.'

It's a puppy invasion at WKMS today! We met three puppies available for adoption at the Humane Society of Calloway County: two tiny terrier mix puppies named Jack and Jill and a young adult beagle named Honey. On Sounds Good, Todd Hatton speaks with Kathy Hodge about the puppies and some events coming up for the holidays.

Breaking the mold this month is a "senior" puppy named Danny, aged 6. He's a Shih Tsu mix with big, expressive brown eyes and a very relaxed demeanor. Very well socialized, he was found in the county with a severe allergic reaction to fleas.  He has rehabilitated over the past two months on allergy medication and healthy diet. In a foster home now with younger middle school children, cats and dogs of all sizes, he's very well socialized and enjoys everyone (especially cats).

Today we meet Katy, a 12-week old boxer/hound mix available for adoption at the Humane Society of Calloway County. She is an energetic young puppy who loved to play and greet everyone at the station. She also walks very well on a leash considering how young she is. She has a tan coat with white features on her face, feet and tip of her tail. She's being fostered with big dogs and has met dogs and kids in the office. On Sounds Good, Todd Hatton speaks with Kathy Hodge about Katy and how you can get your pet photo in their 2016 calendar.

Two adorable little puppies visited WKMS today, Frankie and Lincoln. They are basset hound/Jack Russell terrier mixes, approximately six weeks old and four pounds each. Lincoln is brown and white, seems to take after his father's basset hound traits with a larger body, wider feet and a laid back demeanor. Frankie is black and white with spots on her legs. She has more terrier qualities, a little more adventurous and energetic than her brother. On Sounds Good, Todd Hatton meets the puppies with Kathy Hodge of the Humane Society of Calloway County and learns more about Barkaid coming to Murray.

Today we meet Hansel, a happy, energetic shih tzu/pug mix available for adoption at the Humane Society of Calloway County. He seemed to be smiling the entire time he was at WKMS and enjoyed all of the attention. Kathy Hodge of the Humane Society says he was found running around with a pack of dogs when he was brought in, with matted fur and underweight. He's recovered well, only barks when significant and sits for treats. Hansel seems like a good fit for a young family with lots of energy. In the interview, Hodge also talks about how to volunteer from fostering to driving dogs to rescues and a remarkable story about a poor beagle.

Puppies sound good today, we met Sebastian, a little hound mix, mostly black with white tips on his tail, feet and nose and we welcome back another hound mix, Sadie, who was featured here in March. She's now 5 months old and was briefly adopted, though her home didn't work out (even though she was a very good girl). Sadie is very social and friendly and beginning puppy obedience class. Sebastian was sweet and cuddly, loved to sleep in your arms. The puppies met for the first time in the studio and played during the entire conversation with Kathy Hodge and Tracy Ross about a summer camp for kids and keeping your pets safe during 4th of July festivities.

Today, we meet Roxy, a (big) puppy up for adoption at the Humane Society of Calloway County. She's about 1 to 1/2 years old and weighs approximately 60 pounds. She was very pregnant when rescued from the shelter and within 24 hours, gave birth to eight puppies. Roxy was very sweet and excited to meet everyone at the station. She rolled on her back for belly rubs and had her tongue sticking out almost the entire time. She is house trained and crate trained, enjoys baths, likes cats and small dogs, has foster training with young kids and large dogs, and understands several commands. Humane Society director Kathy Hodge says she'd be a good fit for an energetic family. Hear more in Todd Hatton's Sounds Good conversation with Hodge.
