GOP Gov Candidates Want Kentucky To Be Like Texas

Leading candidates for the Republican nomination in this year’s gubernatorial race say they all want to make Kentucky’s business climate more like the one in Texas. 

During speeches last week, candidates Matt Bevin, James Comer, Hall Heiner and Will T. Scott all promised to carry out plans aimed at reducing state taxes and regulations on businesses. 
They also said they are hoping to model the Commonwealth after Texas, which has been leading the nation for economic growth.

Nominees Selected For Open Kentucky Supreme Court Seat

  A committee has nominated three candidates to replace former Kentucky Supreme Court Justice Will T. Scott, who resigned in January to enter the Republican race for governor.

Scott was elected to his seat on the state’s highest court in 2004, representing the 7thSupreme Court District covering much Eastern Kentucky.

The nominees announced Thursday are all Eastern Kentucky attorneys—David Allen Barber from Prestonsburg, Roger Donald Riggs from Mount Sterling and Janet Stumbo from Van Lear.

Kentucky Supreme Court Overturns Murder Conviction of Teenager

The conviction and 50-year prison sentence of a Kentucky teenager has been overturned after the Kentucky Supreme Court concluded his confession was coerced. The high court today ordered a new trial for 19-year-old Garrett Thomas Dye. A jury convicted Dye in 2011 of beating his adopted sister to death.
