Kentucky Democrats’ hold on the state House slipped further on Monday, when with another state representative switching to the ascendant Republican Party.

State Rep. Jim Gooch of Providence in Western Kentucky has switched from Democrat to Republican, House Republican Leader Jeff Hoover announced.

bill pre-filed in the General Assembly would declare Kentucky a “sanctuary state” for people and companies who don’t want to follow federal environmental laws that will restrict carbon dioxide emissions from power plants.

The bill is sponsored by state Rep. Jim Gooch, a Democrat from Providence in Western Kentucky.

Representative Jim Gooch of Providence is sponsoring a bill in Kentucky’s General Assembly that would force a merger of Kentucky's two power generation and distribution entities.


A legislative panel has postponed its vote on a bill that would allow two aluminum smelters in western Kentucky to purchase electricity on the open market.
