Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe will visit Pearl Harbor later this month, becoming the first Japanese head of state to ever visit the site of the surprise attack.

President Obama will accompany Abe on the visit, which is scheduled for Dec. 27. The 75th anniversary of the attack is this Wednesday.

Earlier this year, Obama became the first sitting U.S. president to visit Hiroshima Peace Memorial Park, where he laid a wreath at a monument to those killed when the U.S. dropped atomic bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki.

Governor Beshear is in the midst of an economic development trip, visiting three Asian countries.

He and his team are meeting with company and country officials in Taiwan, Singapore, and Japan.

Murray State hosts 25 Kobe Gakuin students with the Youth Exchange Kakehashi Project, called 'The Bridge for Tomorrow,' through Saturday (November 9). Murray State students participated in the same program and visited Japan for 10 days as one of the seven representative US Universities accepted in the exchange this May. Calloway County High School Students also participated in a trip. Murray State Senior Lecturer of Japanese Yoko Hatakeyama speaks with Kate Lochte about how this opportunity evolved for the students. 

Japanese Consul-General Motohiko Kato will be leading a lecture and discussion at Murray State University today.

The Nashville based Kato will address Japan’s economic and political challenges and its strategic partnership with the United States.

The 4:30 p.m. event is in MSU's Freed Curd Auditorium and free and open to the public.
