Murray City Council: Interim Finance Director Named; Decision on 16th Street Coming by November

A former director of finance for the city of Murray will take on the same role in an interim capacity following Alan Lanier's resignation last week.

Don Leet served as finance director from 1990 to 2007 under four different mayors. Leet retired only last month from his position as finance officer at Murray engineering firm Bacon Farmer Workman. Mayor Jack Rose, accounting manager Kim Wyatt and human resources director Cathy Morris are handling the job’s duties until Leet’s retirement paperwork is sorted out in Frankfort.

Murray Finance Director Alan Lanier Resigns

City of Murray director of finance Alan Lanier resigned Thursday, Mayor Jack Rose confirms.

Lanier's resignation was effective immediately. Rose held a meeting Thursday with the city's finance department to address the finance director’s duties while the job is vacant. Rose says he, human resources director Cathy Morris and accounting manager Kim Wyatt will share the workload for the time being.

Murray Breaking Ground Thursday on $61 Million Wastewater Plant Expansion

  Murray city leaders will break ground Thursday on a $61 million wastewater treatment plant expansion.

Upgrades at the Bee Creek Wastewater Treatment Plant will cause city water and wastewater bills to double over the next three years, but Mayor Jack Rose says the expansion is necessary to bring the plant up to Environmental Protection Agency and Kentucky Division of Water standards.

City Council Approves Transfer of Rescue Vehicle/Equipment to Hospital EMS

The city of Murray and Calloway County have moved closer to a new deal to make the Murray-Calloway County Hospital's paramedics the primary provider of extrication services in the event of a vehicle accident within or outside the city. 

Thursday night, the City Council approved 8-4 the transferring of the Murray Fire Department’s rescue and vehicle extrication equipment to the Hospital’s EMS unit.

Rose Sets Focus on Sewer Project, City Hall, Downtown for His First Few Weeks as Murray Mayor

Murray Mayor-elect Jack Rose has several large projects he plans to tackle once he begins his first term, including expanding the city’s wastewater capacity and rebuilding downtown.

Rose says the largest project for the city monetarily is updates to the sewer system that the Environmental Protection Agency has mandated. The project includes four different updates at Bee Creek and Clarks River with an estimated cost of $50 million, $13 million more than the initial estimate.

The City of Murray has chosen a new mayor. Challenger Jack Rose unseated incumbent Bill Wells Tuesday night in a close race. Just 149 votes separated the pair.

Rose says he felt a weight lifted from his shoulders when he heard the news.

Murray’s mayoral candidates race say they would continue the city’s current policy of prohibiting Sunday alcohol sales. 

Former Murray State Faculty Regent Jack Rose and incumbent mayor Bill Wells met Tuesday morning to debate subjects ranging from revitalizing downtown Murray and facilitating business to the proposed Parks Referendum and a city payroll tax.
